Shared Minds

Improving mental health in the world's poorest regions

Shared Minds improves lives in resource-poor settings by addressing gaps in health care delivery.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, we partner with experts and educators around the world to develop training and support for health professionals in the traditionally ignored area of mental health.

The problem:

Health professional schools in low-income countries frequently exclude topics that leave health providers inadequately prepared care for their patients. Mental health is often less than 1% of the curriculum even though 20-30% of patients in a health clinic are struggling with mental illness. Similarly, quality improvement and patient-centered care are seen as lofty topics, which leads to institutional waste, lack of innovation and poor outcomes and satisfaction among patients.

Our response:

Culturally-appropriate training and clinical support developed in shared partnership with expert minds around the world help address these gaps. Our team closely studies these interventions, refines them and creates scaleable packages that can be disseminated in the region to benefit hundreds of thousands of people.
